According to Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), a magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck Mabini, Batangas at 3:09 PM. Intensity VII was recorded in Mabini, Batangas while varying intensities were monitored in other places in Batangas, Cavite, Oreintal Mindoro, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Quezon, Pampanga and Camarines Norte. Several aftershocks were monitored after the earthquake, however PHIVOLCS issued a no tsunami advisory from this incident.
The National Council has coordinated with its Regional DRRM Council in CALABARZON to monitor the initial effects of the earthquake. An emergency meeting was held between the RDRRMC and Mabini Mayor Britics Luistro to discuss the immediate needs of the community as well as the assessment of damages incurred from the earthquake.
RDRRMC CALABARZON raised its alert status to RED for continuous assessment. Response teams and equipment were prepositioned in Mabini Batangas to ensure immediate mobilization of assets. An Incident Management Team was also activiated in Mabini, Batangas. Coordination with other member agencies on possible aid and assistance is ongoing.
The National Council is continuously monitoring the effects of the strong earthquake through the Regional DRRM Councils. The public is reminded to avoid sharing false information and heed the warnings coming from official sources only.
